If your phone's headphone jack is 3.5mm, you can connect it to the lapel microphone without using the TRS adapter.
For iPhone 7 and later models, you need to connect the LIGHTNING to 3.5mm adapter to lapel microphone which comes with your phone. For Android phones, you have to connect Type C to 3.5mm adapter to lapel microphone.
